For my final project, I will be creating a new subdomain for a podcast series. Within this subdomain, I will create 3 episodes, which will all be accessible and include podcast transcripts.
The topic
I’m a really big fan of anything true crime, including documentaries, podcasts, and my all time favorite T.V. show, Criminal Minds. As such, I’m going to lean into this interest and make my podcast about various serial killers, talking about the history of their lives and actions, and I might even dive into the psychology behind their mindset.
The states with the lowest obesity percentage are primarily the mid west and northeast states. The top 11 states with the highest obesity percentage are in the south.
Process
I used Microsoft excel to format and analyze the data. I created a pivot table with the information I needed for the graph, which was state and percentage, and then sorted the data from lowest percentage to highest. I then created a graph from that table in order to see a trend.
For my data project I have decided to analyze the amount of students in each department at UMW in the Fall 2020 semester. Here is a link to where I found this data.
Based on the data I was able to find that in Fall of 2020 UMW had the most students on the psychology department and the least amount in the dance department.
I used Microsoft Excel to separate and analyze this data. I first created my pivot table and made the axis the courses and then made the value to be the number of students per department. I then took this table and put it is order from least amount of students to most amount of students.
For my final project I would like to create 2 more episodes of my podcast. I feel as though I can be more successful in this because I found it more engaging, compared to the other projects, to work with audio. I am passionate about my podcast topic and really wanted to talk more about it but was only allowed to for 2 whole minutes (so sad). But now I can!
For my final project I want to create a new subdomain for a podcast. I want to continue with the theme of my original podcast and discuss books I have read and new books that will be released by some of my favorite authors.
Podcast Ideas
An episode on Lauren Roberts and her series called Powerless
An episode on Alex Aster and her series called Lightlark
An episode on Stephanie Garber and her series Once Upon a Broken Heart
Why I want to have the final project on family conflict resolution:
I will build a new subdomain for the website to share information on Family Conflict Resolution. I will use HOSTINGER for the domain name TogetherAsFamilyForever.org. I have been providing counseling and support to families to resolve conflicts in real life. I was doing this for my church, external family members and colleagues at work who needed my help. This course opened my eyes to reach a wider audience to help families reduce and or resolve conflicts. From experience, conflicts could destroy husband and wife relationship, parent(s) and child/children’s relationships and even relationships with in-laws, friends and external family members of the couples. Family conflicts could lead to physical, emotional and psychological abuse, separation or divorce. It could destroy self-esteem, cause depression and even lead to suicide. Helping families avoid these potential effects of conflicts brings some satisfaction to me and I would like to use the skills I have gotten from this course to help more people with an online presence. Attached is the Final Project Proposal
The objectives for focusing on Family Conflict Resolution are therefore (i) To provide relevant information to families on how to resolve family conflicts and maintain healthy family relationships and (ii) Provide practical role plays, counseling sessions, conflict negotiation and mediation to resolve family conflicts.
What are the episodes, their format and duration?
I have been working on family conflict resolution for some of my projects and I would like to continue on to focus on this topic which is very important and dear to my heart. For the first episode, I will use the introduction I created with audio and video for projects 7 and 8. For the second episode, I will talk about why healthy family relationships are important. This will be in the form of 15 minutes video presentation with voice over and closed captions. For the third episode, I will research the web for data and information on for example, divorce rate, physical and emotional abuse, and suicide rates associated with family conflicts and create an infographic based on that data. For the fourth episode, I will have a 15-minute video presentation with voice over and closed captions on some of the main reasons conflict happens. Episode five will also use video with voice over and closed captions to talk about some of the ways to resolve family conflicts.
Who are the audience:
My audience for the project will be my colleagues, family members and community who are the immediate target audience. I will be sharing the media on WhatsApp, Facebook, TikTok and YouTube to reach a wider audience. I will offer the audience the opportunity to have zoom counseling, role play, conflict negotiation and mediation to help resolve family conflict if that is requested. For the second phase, I will have Spanish versions of the audio, video and infographics. The practical counseling, negotiation and mediation will be done only in English for now until I get a Spanish partner who has similar commitment to help to collaborate on this.
This is a passionate topic for me because this journey is what made me the person that I am today. I am able to understand my strengths and weaknesses and continue to challenge myself and grow each and every day. Learning the leadership qualities along the way has taken me down the path to acquiring a passion for guiding others towards their same journey. Helping others allows you to feel accomplished, in turn giving you more confidence in your abilities to keep growing as a person. You can learn more about this in the article The Secret to Personal Growth: Why Helping Others is the Ultimate Strategy. Your journey starts with making small goals to be a better version of yourself every day. The article Your journey to self-discovery discusses the importance of self-discovery and multiple approaches to the journey.
Process
The process was pretty difficult especially because I am portraying a story from the past. A lot of the images I included did not import to the video in good quality, but they were the pictures I wanted to use. I had to use a lot of existing images and videos because it helped explain the concept well. However, I enjoyed creating the videos that I did take though. I used a tripod and the cinematic mode on my phone to capture the video because I have some experience with it already. It was my first time sort of “acting” so that was definitely interesting, but cool! I used Clipchamp to edit because the tutorial videos I watched made it a breeze to understand how to use. I picked YouTube as my streaming platform because I have posted on there years ago and it is a pretty simple process. I was having trouble with the captions for the video on YouTube, so I used a website called Happy Scribe to create the video’s subtitles.
For my final project in my DGST 101 class, I absolutely love the idea of building out my main domain to market myself and my digital abilities to future employers, colleagues, etc., in order to display my skills and abilities and how it could benefit their work establishment. I wish to do this by adding my work from this class and from my ARTS 104 course that I took over the summer. During my ARTS 104 class, I did so many interesting projects using Adobe applications like Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.
This domain would feature all of these combined projects to incorporate marketing/advertising, audio, video and photo editing as well as online application skills. In addition, I would like to create a cohesive website to showcase these projects. I would enjoy taking on this project in relation to my hopes of being in the media management and marketing business in the future!
I’ve added an example of a project I did where I took and edited the picture below using all of the skills I learned from this class and ARTS 104.
I would like to be able to re-do/re-configure my original podcast video. I have the first podcast talking about homelessness and affordable housing. I would like to continue on that same track and have my next one talk about homeless shelter “living”. The final podcast I would like to have discussing the likelihood of shelter residents finding and being able to maintain housing and the challenges that come with it. I would conduct interviews with shelter personal and their case manager to find my information.
LF: Welcome back, sports fans, to another episode of ‘Eagle Eye on Sports’! I’m your host, Lauren Foley, and today we’re diving into the exciting season of the University of Mary Washington’s 2024 volleyball team. Let’s get into it!

They faced tough losses, including a 0-3 defeat against Virginia Wesleyan University early in the season

LF: That’s all for today’s episode of ‘Eagle Eye on Sports.’ Thanks for tuning in, and don’t forget to follow us for more updates on your favorite UMW teams.
The process
The equipment I used to record was the Voice Memo application on my iPhone 12 Pro, and I used the website SoundTrap to edit my project. I used AI (Microsoft Copilot) to create both the image at the top of this post, and the outline and script for my project, with some edits.
