Who am I on the web?

Living in the digital age requires one to be on the internet in one way or another for their personal and professional lives. Being proficient in web navigation, social communication, and entertainment surfing makes the internet practical and enjoyable. We all likely have some form of web presence whether we like it or not.

Engage Taste Explaining the importance of a digital presence

Professional

In multiple aspects of my life I have had to understand and use the internet as both a student and a working professional.

Student

Use of the internet is an expectation of me as a student, as most courses complete some or most assignments online. My school Discord profile and my brand new website are examples of my school digital presences.

Worker

In one of my past professions as a C.W.D Technician, I was required to use the internet to categorize sample information, and communicate with my supervisors. Some of my field data was used in online C.W.D statistics for the Virginia Phelps area.

Personal Presence

My experience on the web of course started on personal social and streaming platforms. Video games, social media, and streaming platforms were my first introduction to the internet.

Social Media

Some of my earliest experiences on the internet included Snapchat, YouTube, and my personal Discord profile. Later I would expand to the other big social media apps such as TikTok, Twitter, and Twitch.

Video Gamer

The internet also gave me access to online live service games, many of which I still play today. League of Legends, Dead by Daylight, Overwatch, Marvel Rivals, and Final Fantasy XIV are all games I’ve had substantial time socializing and competing on.

Final Project Report

Accessibility and Media/Source credit

For my final project I followed all accessibility guidelines which includes Alt text for images, Heading structure for posts/pages, Descriptive link text for all links, High color contrast for images and text and an audio transcript for all podcasts. For my media and source credit I have listed it on all podcast post, here is the list of credits: For audio editing I used the website VEED.io . Photo credit: J-Slo Photo (UMW media day photographer). For audio transcript I used Descript.com.

Information Accuracy and copyright license

For this project I used all my own personal information. I used my own and other lacrosse players personal experience to create fun and entertaining podcasts. I used all copyright free sites to edit my audios. I also used not help from AI.

Audio Recording

Data

The data I used for this project was data comparing students who play sports in college verses students who don’t play sports grades. I got my data from StatCrunch. The data discussed how student athletes receive higher grades than students who don’t play sports.

Audio

I chose to create a short audio discussing this topic because I wanted to explain to listeners how the data was taken and what exactly it means. My audio supports my data because I discussed how students who play sports obtain a higher GPA, from a student-athlete perspective.

Equipment and Audio

I chose to use my computer audio recorder called “simple recorder” to record this project because it was simple and easy to use. To brainstorm the media I wanted in my audio I wrote down a checklist of what I needed to include.

Final Project Idea

For my final project I want continue to discuss sports at UMW. I want to create a podcast and potentially interview sports players here at UMW. I would like to use my first audio from the audio assignment and then continue on with two other podcasts.

Data Project Checkpoint

Data

The data Set I used was comparing students who play sports verses students who don’t play sports GPAs. I used StatCrunch for my data.

The process

I used the data I found online to create an excel work book. I am very familiar with excel because I have used it several times before. I used the data to create a Pivot Table and used that to create the graph bellow. Here is my Excel Data.

Video Project

Topic

The topic I chose for my video was sports at UMW. I used YouTube to find a copyright free short clip of a field hockey game. For support for this topic, I used the UMW athletics website and the website Community College Daily for reasons why sports are important.

The Recording Process

I chose to use my phone to record my videos. I used snap chat to create my cover photo. I used an app called video up! To edit my video and put all the clips together. Finally, I chose to upload my video to YouTube, so it is accessible to all.

Equipment

The equitment I will be using for this project will be my cell phone a d a tripod. I will use my cell photne to record videos and take photos. The tripod will be used for stabilizing my phone when I am speaking for some of the recordings

Shooting

A few things I plan to shoot are one of my teammates shooting on the lacrosse field, them speaking about the sport and why sports at UMW are so important, and lastly myself speaking for multiple videos.  This video footage supports my project because I am speaking on behalf of sports at UMW so interviewing my teammates will be a big part of my project.

Audio Project

Audio Project UMW

Recording

To record this audio I used the app simple recorder. It was very simple to use because it is an app through apple. I was able to edit it on the app as well so I didn’t need to use any other source. I used AI to help with my outline and speaking notes for this project.

Media

I used a song called Discipline from the website Artist. This site was easy to use and copy right free. Another site i used to help me and gave me tips on how to produce a good recording was this website called 9 tips for improving audio quality of recoding.

Audio Check-In Assignment

Recording and Equipment

To record this audio project in my room and will be using my iPhone to record it. I will be using the app “voice memo” on my iPhone. For sounds I will include a recording of what it sounds like in the gym while my team lifting and I will also include a sound of what practice sounds like for my lacrosse team. I plan to use my phone to record this audio cover. I plan to use the app “voice memo” on my iPhone because it is simple and easy to do voice recording on the app. I have also used voice memo on my phone for previous recordings, so I am familiar with how it works.

Topic and AI Use

Explanation of topic: the topic I chose is sports at Mary Washington. This is something i am very interested in because I play lacrosse at Mary Washington. Most of my friends also play a sport at Mary Washington, so I am very informed about this topic. I used AI to help create my outline for this audio. It helped me break down my audio into detailed groups which will help me organize my content.

Images

Why?

I chose the first image as my site icon because I wanted something simple with my favorite colors. I chose to put my initials on the picture because this is my website and I wanted it to be personalized. I wanted something simple that says something about me. I chose to create the second image as the header image for my website because it also included my favorite colors but my name as well so others know its my website.

The Process

The process of creating images was overall fun and interesting. I enjoyed creating my images. I used the website Canva to create my two images. I really like this website because its super easy to use and makes creating images a fun process. I chose the file type JPEG because this is the best file for downloading images and sharing them.
