Finished Final Project

My final project was to build out my main site.

Accessibility

To make my site accessible I used colors that have high contrast to make it easier to see. All the images have alt text, and I used descriptive links. I used headings on my pages so that a screen reader can differentiate between the different sections.

Media/Source Credit

All of the pictures on my site were taken by me, so on the copyright page I say that and specify that anything not owned by me is credited. The group project that I was in gives credit to the other group members.

Information Accuracy

All the information about me is correct, as I am talking about myself. The other information on my site has the sources where I got my information included or it is easy to fact check online.

Copyright

I chose to copyright my site with all right reserved. I chose this because I am putting information about myself out on the internet, so I want to stay mine.

AI

I did not get any help from an AI to create my main site.

Process

I first started working on the site when we had to make our site for this class. I them went to a DKC event that was about building websites. At that event I created the pages for my site and decided on the colors. After meeting to discuss the final project contract I started working on the individual pages. I copied my resume into the resume page and uploaded a copy. Then I filled in the about me page and added the projects I wanted to post on this page. I then made the posts about each project and added the post list to the portfolio page. I used Canva to make the site graphic that you see on the tab.

Data Storytelling

A chalkboard background with a graph of fruit based on size and price

I downloaded my data from the USDA website. The story I found in my data was that the smaller the size of the fruit the higher the price per pound was.

I used Canva to make my infographic. I created a graph to represent the fruit size and price. This supports my story because you can visually see the difference in the price of the fruit based on the size of it. To make the infographic on Canva I had to search up images of all the fruit individually. Then I used one of my graphs from Excel to get the approximate locations of each fruit and then adjusted it so that you can clearly see what each fruit is.

I used graphic free to use on Canva to create this.

Final Project

For my final project I am going to build out my main domain.

I am going to make it so that I can use it in job interviews or place it on my resume.

Where Found

First, I went to Data.gov and then I found a topic about fruit and vegetable prices, and I thought that was interesting. The actual data was downloaded from USDA.

Explain Trend

The price per pound of fruit rises as the size of the fruit gets smaller.

Process

I just looked at the pivot table and the numbers in excel to determine the trend.

Video Final

Topic

My topic is making crochet coaters for my younger siblings. I got this idea while on fall break and thought it would make an easy project. The video consists of the coasters I made, the yarn isle at Micheal’s and a shot of me working on one for the coasters. The pattern I used is the Sunrise Coaster and the yarn I used is from Loops and Threads

Credits

The pattern is Sunrise Coasters from tl yarn crafts.

The image is from Micheal’s Loops and Threads Everyday Cotton Yarn.

The opening image is from Canva, it was a presentation made by Michelle Amoruso.

The music I used is called At the Playhouse by Michael Ramir C.

The background sound effects that I used were found on Soundtrap.

Process

I used my phone to record the videos. I recorded each shot using a tripod and my phone. Most of the shots were made one after the other but it was easier to record in pieces because I had to move or grab things, and it made more sense to stop the recording than to keep it going and have to cut it. I used Clipchamp to edit the video. I picked YouTube as the streaming platform to upload my video. I picked Clipchamp because was part of Microsoft and the school already had it. I pick YouTube because I knew that I could upload the video unlisted so that most people would not be able to find it just by searching something similar.

Equipment

I am going to use my phone to shoot the video. I will use a tripod in some scenes. I will help with the shots that don’t have much movement to keep it steady. I plan on using the natural lighting of the room or place I will be filming in. If the lighting in the room does not look good in the video I will look into other sources of lighting, but the places I will be filming it is easier to use the light already in the rooms and that comes in from windows in the rooms.

What & Why

I am going to be filming various crochet coaster pieces and my hands crocheting and the yarn isle at Micheal’s. I think this fits with my podcast topic as I am talking about the coasters that I am making to give to my siblings for Christmas, so it fits ti show the completed product and the process of making one.

Transcript

Hey, y'all and welcome to my podcast about making crochet coasters. So, overall break, I was with my mom and Michael's, and I ended up getting cotton yarn to make coasters. And I realized they are very easy to make the design I'm doing takes about an hour to make one. So, I wanted to make some for my siblings as a gift. They are an easy gift to make. And well we are all starting to collect knick-knacks and home items for apartments, dorm rooms, or just for when we're living on our own. You need to use cotton yarn because cotton yarn is more heat resistant then acrylic or polyester and I'm using the design called Sunrise coaster, design that found on the internet. It looks kind of like flower, so don't know if I'm gonna give that to my brother yet, but it's what I'm using right now. Each sibling is going to get a set of four and they're going be different colors. I have five different colors of multicolored yarn and I'm going to make all the sets and then figure out which sibling I want to give it to. I might make a holder for The Coasters I made or just give them to them in a bag, we'll see how it goes. Thanks for listening to my podcast about coasters. And hope you enjoyed it.

Podcast Draft

Outline

I chose to do a podcast where I talk about making crochet coasters. The coasters are going to be a Christmas gift for my siblings and the podcast will talk about how I thought of the idea and making them.

Introduction (20 seconds)
Greeting: Welcome listeners to the podcast. (Sound effect: rustling yarn)
Topic Introduction: Briefly introduce the topic of crocheting coasters.
Why am I doing This (40 seconds)
Idea: Fall break w/mom got yarn for coasters.
Gift: After realizing how easy they are to make, I wanted to make them as gifts for siblings. (Sound effect: light tapping of crochet hooks)
Why: Easy gift, they are starting to collect things for apartments. (Sound effect: snipping scissors)
Process (20 seconds)
Yarn: Have to use cotton.
Design: Sunrise coaster design from the internet, might make another.
Number: Each sibling will get a set. (Sound effect: soft background music)
Finishing (30 seconds)
Color: Have 5 different multicolor yarns, have to decide which sibling gets which.
Wrapping: I could make a coaster holder or make a holder out of something else. (Sound effect: snipping scissors)
Customization: Each sibling will get different colors, maybe different holder designs.
Conclusion (10 seconds)
Sign-off: Thank listeners and mention the next episode’s topic. (Sound effect: gentle chime)

I did use AI to help give me my script. I figured out the topic that I wanted to talk about and asked it for a script. I changed most of the script to better fit what I wanted to talk about but left the structure mostly the same.

Equpment

I am going to use an audio recorder to record.

The images above are the header and logo for my site. I decided on them because the first try of making them didn’t work well so I tried with different images. The header image was chosen because I liked the way it looked. And the logo design I thought would show up will. I am not very creative, but I used Vectorpea to choose the header and Canva to make the logo.

The background image of the hills in my header image was suggested when I put in the pixel size. The image had the words “Hello World!” and “What a beautiful day.” in the center of the image. I changed “Hello World!” to “What is happening?” and kept it in the center of the image. I changed “What a beautiful day” to “Is this fantasy?” because I liked it and thought it with well with “What is happening?” and the name of my site “KelseyAnne’s Thoughts”.

The logo image was made from a template that someone made on Canva that was available for public use. The template was made by @syammasfitria, links to original design. I liked it but I needed to change the initials to match my site, it also had words below the initials that I got rid of. I used “K” and “T” because they represent the title of my site. You can see the initials on the site logo when it is on the tab.

I chose to download the header as .JPG because that was the most familiar type of file to me. The article from CRO:NYX suggests that it is the most recommended file type for images in a website. The logo was downloaded as a PNG because that was the default to download on Canva. PNG was also recommended for icons which is what my logo is. I also think that the other file types suggested in The Ultimate Guide to Website Images [2023] didn’t seem like they would be the right fit for what I was going to do with the image.

Copyright

Copyright is what protects your work from being used by others. As soon as you create something it is copyrighted. There is the copyright were no one can use your work without permission, and it has to be attributed. There are other forms of copyright were there are fewer restrictions. Creative commons helps people to understand how they are allowed to use your work. I chose the creative commons license because I want people to be able to interact with my work. If my work inspires them and they use it in a new way that is amazing. I don’t want my work to be commercialized because I want my works to be able to be shared and used for free.

Using Others Work

When you want to use someone else’s property, you have to ask. If the work or property is under full copyright, you have to receive permission and give credit to the person who created it. Whenever you use someone else’s work or property you should credit the original creator. Sometimes depending on the creative commons license you legally don’t have to credit the author, but it is always polite to give credit.
